Precision Farming: Greek agtech companies develop affordable solutions for improved location tracking in the field

NEUROPUBLIC and AGENSO, two innovative companies activated in the agrifood sector, join their forces in the context of the SymbIoT project, in order to develop affordable technological solutions for even higher precision in positioning in the field which will facilitate the application of precision agriculture services.

In the context of SymbIoT, the gaiatron agro-climatic IoT stations designed and developed by NEUROPUBLIC in Greece, will operate as permanent GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) base stations and will communicate in real-time with the moving components of the system.

In practice, in case a tractor is equipped with the necessary components, the farmer will be able to determine its routes within the field with high precision, reducing both fuel consumption (so costs as well) and the emission of gases.

In addition, the SymbIoT system will operate as a digital map of the field, in which the farmer himself will be able to record points of interest for his production. More specifically, he will be able to mark spots of sampling, farming activities, location of sick trees etc. so that he can come back to them in the future with high precision.

Last but not least, in case there is the possibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), SymbIoT’s approach will allow farmers to perform his farming activities more efficiently and effectively, through automatic navigation applications.

Pegasus Agrifood Coop/7 Grapes, based in Kiato, Corinth, is also a consortium member, in the vineyards of which the SymbIoT services will be initially applied. Selected producers of the agricoop, which is already using the smart farming services of NEUROPUBLIC, will actively participate in the pilot application of SymbIoT’s technological solutions in their vineyards, before they are widely applied at a larger scale.

SymbIoT is implemented in the context of the RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE and is co-funded by European Union and State funds through the Operational Programme Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EPAnΕΚ) (project no: Τ1ΕΔΚ-00459)
